Solved NTBackup generates 0x1f error when using scheduler Posted on 2007-09-18 Windows Batch Windows Server 2003 1 Verified Solution 15 Comments 14,185 Views Last Modified: 2011-03-31 I am using the following command in a batch script that is executed through a scheduled job: ===================== Begin backup batch script ===================== FOR /F "tokens=1,2 delims= " %%F IN ('date /t') Do Set tmpDate=%%G FOR /F "tokens=1,2,3 delims=/" %%F IN ("%tmpDate%") Do Set tmpDate=%%F-%%G-%%H ntbackup backup "@D:\BackUpPgm\Atlas01DailyBackup.bks" /a /v:yes /J "Full Backup for %tmpDate%" /m normal /hc:off /l:f /f "\\server_name\directory\volume\backed_up_server_name_%tmpDate%.bkf" ===================== End Backup batch script ===================== When I run the batch file manually or log in an execute the scheduled job, it executes correctly. When I log out and wait for the scheduled job to run it always returns a 0x1f in the last result code. I have logged in with the same credentials that I am using to execute the job in the scheduler to verify that it is not a permissions issue. The application event log generates an 8017 event: Event Type: Error Event Source: NTBackup Event Category: None Event ID: 8017 Date: 9/18/2007 Time: 2:44:02 PM User: N/A Computer: server_name Description: NTBackup error: 'The operation failed. Consult the Backup Report for more details.' The backup report states that it can not find the media to write to, which is odd, because it finds it when i logged in. will try to explain it as detailed as i can, to cover most of the questions that i saw people asked in similar situations... Have AD with all clients WinXP Pro http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/ntbackup-problem-exit-code-0x1f.3334251/ SP2. i have configured 14 backups to run at 9-00 am in one of the http://getridoferrors.com/0x1f_Ntbackup_Error.html departmens i am responsible for. Users dont have local admin rights on their machines. I configured ntbackup task as follows: Created separate account in AD, added it to the Domain Admin group. On user's machines i initiate ntbackup with "Run as..." command, using that AD account with admin rights. Configure files to backup. Backup info: Normal, no verification, error 0x1f overwrite files, destination - share on the server, configured as an UNC name, not the mapped drive... Backup when: Later. Scheduler - daily backup at 9-00am. Scheduled task runs from under AD account with domain admin rights. Option "Run only when logged in" is not selected. Option "Wake computer to run the task" is selected. All computers are on at the time the task runs. PROBLEM: randomly (means user A today, user B tomorrow, error 0x1f ntbackup user C day after tomorrow) backups fail with exit code 0x1F. For example, today, 7 out of 14 failed. Yestarday 6 out of 14 failes, few people are different then today. When i run the task manually out of the scheduler (right click - Run) it works OK. Account that's used to run the tasks has full access to the share on the server, just as NTFS permissions. Antivirus isnt an issue (dont have it on the server atm) (before any bashing begins about not having AV on the server, want to say that the "Server" is just a workstation with lots of disk space, XP Pro SP2 based as well, fresh build, and that department is just testing the possibility of the backup onto it) I saw a couple of times that 0x1F means that destination isnt accessible (either rights or simply unavailible). BUT! Randomness and the fact the one office failed today, but the neighbour next door ran fine - all that kind of show that there are no problems with access or permissions. Tried deleting task, and re-creating it - no luck. I searched groups here - only 3 threads so far, none followed up to the resolution. And it seems to be more or less common problem. A Windows error is an error that happens when an unexpected condition occurs or when a desired operation has failed. When you have an error in Windows, it may be critical and cause your programs to freeze and crash or it may be seemingly harmless yet annoying.
A stop error screen or bug check screen, commonly called a blue screen of death (also known as a BSoD, bluescreen), is caused by a fatal system error and is the error screen displayed by the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems upon encountering a critical error, of a non-recoverable nature, that causes the system to "crash".
One of the biggest causes of DLL's becoming corrupt/damaged is the practice of constantly installing and uninstalling programs. This often means that DLL's will get overwritten by newer versions when a new program is installed, for example. This causes problems for those applications and programs that still need the old version to operate. Thus, the program begins to malfunction and crash.
Computer hanging or freezing occurs when either a program or the whole system ceases to respond to inputs. In the most commonly encountered scenario, a program freezes and all windows belonging to the frozen program become static. Almost always, the only way to recover from a system freeze is to reboot the machine, usually by power cycling with an on/off or reset button.
Once your computer has been infected with a virus, it's no longer the same. After removing it with your anti-virus software, you're often left with lingering side-effects. Technically, your computer might no longer be infected, but that doesn't mean it's error-free. Even simply removing a virus can actually harm your system.
